Our favourite walks in the Dordogne Valley

The Dordogne valley is an ideal playground for walkers : breath-taking landscapes, enchanting castles, spectacular gorges and green valleys. Discover Martel and its surroundings

The Causse de Martel is a walking area rich in natural and built heritage. From the medieval town of Martel, you can discover wonders such as the Romanesque church of Murel, the mill and the source of the Eye of the Doue. The hilly landscape offers a great variety of geological features, with areas of woodland, meadows and valleys. Limestone is present throughout the area, as is the water that has shaped the landscape by carving into the rock. This is an ideal walk to discover the historical heritage of Martel and the unspoilt nature of its surroundings.

The Canal des Moines in Aubazines

The Canal des Moines is a historic canal located in the town of Aubazines, in the Corrèze. It was built in the 12th century to serve the abbeys of the region and to supply water to the monks. This walk will offer you a peaceful and tranquil experience emersed in the natural surroundings. The route is suitable for all levels of walker and offers a beautiful view of the canal and the surrounding area. It will take you through fields, forests and small picturesque villages. You will also be able to see the birds and wildlife that live in the area. This is a perfect experience for the whole family. In addition to the beautiful nature, the walk around the Canal des Moines in Aubazines will also allow you to discover the 12th century abbey that inspired Coco Chanel. From Aubazines, you can enjoy several walks of varying lengths between 5 and 10 kilometres.

Walk around Autoire

Discover the magnificent landscapes of the Autoire valley. The route starts at the church square in Autoire and follows the path along the river. The route is accessible to all levels of walker. On the way you can admire the limestone cliffs and natural caves of the Causse de Gramat, sunflower fields and green meadows. The route also takes you near to the magnificent Château des Anglais. On this walk you will be able to discover the local fauna and flora, possibly even come across rare birds and butterflies. The walk can last about 2 hours, but it is possible to extend it by taking other walking paths in the vicinity.

Situated between the causse of Martel and Gramat, this walk offers breath-taking panoramic views of the Dordogne valley. Passing through the Dordogne valley, you will be able to admire the passages cut by the Dordogne river on the high cliffs of the limestone plateaus thousands of years ago. You can walk through the valley that separates the Causse de Martel to the north and the Causse de Gramat to the south, where the river meanders in harmony with the striking contrasts between the banks. The grey limestone cliffs are a real sight to behold! This walk takes about 3 hours.
